Prenatal and Postpartum

At French Broad Chiropractic, we understand that the health of a pregnant woman is vitally important because the care we offer affects both mom and child. Proper nervous system and spinal function are crucial to the development of a baby and essential to the well-being and comfort of the mom. The effects of chiropractic care during pregnancy are far-reaching and extend way beyond treating pain.

We have special pillows to create ease for pregnant women to get adjusted throughout all stages of pregnancy. Getting adjusted can create better birth outcomes, less need for unwanted medical intervention, easier and faster labors, optimal pelvic positioning for baby’s exit, and nerve supply for baby as he/she grows and develops. Chiropractic care can help prevent discomfort like sciatica, general aches and discomforts, and round ligament pain for mamas whose bodies are changing too.

How does chiropractic help moms-to-be feel more comfortable during pregnancy?

Pregnancy involves changing and growing for both mama and baby. As the baby and the belly grow, it can come with discomfort and pains along the way. Getting adjusted during pregnancy helps to alleviate pain, promote a sense of ease into the body and helps a woman feel more connected to her growing baby. We have had some of our practice members who have had multiple pregnancies say that they were more comfortable and had an easier pregnancy when regular chiropractic care was implemented.

What are some other benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy?

While chiropractic effectively addresses prenatal aches and pains, it also allows the body to communicate with the brain more effectively through the improvement of nervous system function. These improvements can optimize your (and your baby’s) overall health, helping to manage swelling, morning sickness, hormonal challenges, sciatica, round ligament pain and other things that come with the prenatal season. You may even enjoy an easier, quicker labor process.

What is the Webster Technique?

This adjusting method focuses on pelvic alignment for the pregnant person. When the pelvis is aligned, there is proper room for baby to grow. The Webster Technique provides gentle adjustments to the sacrum and round ligaments to help guide the baby towards going head-down for an optimal position for exit. This technique could help decrease the need for unwanted medical intervention. Both Dr. Taylor and Dr. Hayley are trained in the Webster technique.

Is prenatal chiropractic care safe?

Definitely. We have special pillows and tables to create ease for pregnant women to get adjusted throughout all stages of pregnancy.

When should I get my newborn checked by a chiropractor?

We know that birth can be traumatic for all parties involved, whether it’s a peaceful home birth or an emergency C-section. While we understand that every single birth is beautiful, there is a lot of stress on a baby when he/she comes earth side and often the birth process involves pulling or twisting of the baby’s head during his/her exit. We recommend getting the baby adjusted as soon as possible, as early as minutes after birth! We know that the earlier a little one’s nervous system is firing perfectly, the healthier he/she is likely to be. It is our joy to serve families through the pregnancy experience and after.

“We love y’all and are so thankful for everything you have done for us and our health! We definitely know our pregnancy and delivery were so smooth because of the work you put into us! 😍” – Rachel S.
